Robin's Mushroom Casserole


A savory accompaniment to chicken and turkey

Time: 1 hour

9 slices of bread cubed

1/2 lb sliced mushrooms

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup onion

1/2 cup celery

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

Basic white sauce (See Note)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Make white sauce; set aside.

Sauté mushrooms, onion and celery in butter, set aside.

Place 1/3 of bread in buttered casserole.

Pour vegetable mixture over bread.

Add 1/3 more bread to dish.

Combine milk and eggs together, then pour over bread.

Add the last 1/3 bread.

Spoon the white sauce over the top.

Bake uncovered for 40 minutes.


The original recipe called for 1 can of cream of mushroom soup.
