Louise's Lebanese Hamburgers


Tasty burgers baked in a crisp pita pocket are seasoned with allspice and a hint of cinnamon.

Time: 30 mins.

6 pita breads

1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef

1-2 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped

1 onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Salt and pepper to tast

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Mix beef, tomatoes, onion and spices together in a bowl.

Slice the pitas open, cutting the top carefully and leaving it partially attached.

Take a handful of meat mixture and spread evenly to the edges on the bottom half of the pita.

Close the pita and rub olive oil on both top and bottom sides of the bread.

Bake on a cookie sheet for 15-20 minutes or until the pita is golden and slightly crisp.

Serve with salad.
