Louise's Ground Sirloin Spaghetti

A leaner meat alternative to a family favorite

Time: 3 hours

2 lb. ground sirloin

1 large onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, chopped

8-ounce package of mushrooms, chopped

2 lb. ground sirloin

1 large onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, chopped

8-ounce package of mushrooms, chopped

1 tsp. dried basil (or use 1 Tbs. if fresh, shredded)

1 tsp. Italian seasoning (or oregano)

Cook onions and garlic together in a small amount of oil.

Add ground sirloin; brown the meat.

When meat has browned, add tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano and dried basil.*

Stir to combine, and stir occasionally during cooking.

Cook over low heat for three hours.

Drain off fat as it rises.

Taste sauce; season with salt and pepper to your preference.

Serve with cooked pasta.

 

*If using fresh basil, stir it in at the very end of the cooking time
