Sis' Pioneer Bread


Full-bodied with a touch of sweetness, this makes the best toast you’ll ever have.

Time: 1 hour 10 mins.

2 cups all-purpose flour

4 cups whole-wheat flour

¾ cup sugar

2 tsp. salt

1 quart buttermilk

4 tsp. baking soda

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Grease two 9 x 5 x3” loaf pans.

Measure out all ingredients.

In a large bowl, stir all ingredients together well.

Turn dough out into loaf pans; no need to let rise.

Place bread pans into preheated 375°F oven, then immediately turn heat down to 350°F.

Bake one hour or until done.

Remove bread from pans and cool on a rack.

Makes two one-pound loaves.
